Somniloquy (talking in your sleep)

Somniloquy, commonly known as sleep talking, is a phenomenon in which a person speaks during sleep without being aware of what they are saying and without remembering what they say when they wake up. The speech may be incoherent and nonsensical, or on the contrary, very clear and understandable. Sometimes, they can even be complete conversations. Episodes of somniloquy can last from a few seconds to several minutes.

Sleep talking can occur during any stage of sleep, but it is most common during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, when most dreaming occurs. Triggers for sleep talking can include stress, depression, fever, lack of sleep, alcohol, and certain medications.

Somniloquy is not usually considered a serious medical problem and does not usually require treatment. However, if it disrupts a partner's sleep or is associated with another sleep disorder (such as sleep apnea or nightmares), it may be necessary to consult a healthcare professional.

A comfortable and soothing sleep environment can help promote better quality sleep and reduce the incidence of disorders such as somniloquy.
