Talalay latex is a variation of natural or synthetic latex used in the manufacture of mattresses, pillows, and other bedding products. Its name comes from the unique manufacturing process it is made from, the Talalay method.
The Talalay method involves six main steps. First, liquid latex is poured into a mold, which is then sealed tightly. Next, the mold is evacuated of air, which causes the latex to expand to fill the voids. The mold is then flash frozen, which stabilizes the cellular structure of the latex. Next, the latex is steamed to solidify its structure. After this, the latex is washed to remove any residual latex proteins and salts. Finally, the latex is dried at a high temperature to remove moisture.
The result is an exceptionally breathable and resilient material with an open cell structure that provides excellent airflow and superior thermal regulation. Talalay latex is also known for its superior comfort and precise support, which helps align the spine and relieve pressure points. Plus, it is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, making it ideal for those with allergies or chemical sensitivities.
Although the Alba Original Mattress does not use Talalay latex in its manufacture, it shares many of the beneficial qualities of this material. The Alba Original Mattress is made with a 100% natural latex core, providing excellent temperature regulation, high resilience, and precise support for quality sleep.
